We are a small family-owned independent deli & grocer that opened in Muswell Hill in north London in 2005. We aim to be a one-stop shop for every day essentials and hard-to-find ingredients, so you will find our small shop literally crammed full.

We pride ourselves on charging sensible prices as we believe that good food should be accessible to everyone whatever their budget. It's a shame that the effective marketing skills of the supermarkets so often convince people that the supermarkets are always the low cost option - look in most of the independent shops in Muswell Hill and you'll find that just isn't the case! Most of the products we sell can't be found in the supermarkets but for those products we have in common, our customers are regularly shocked to find we are cheaper (supermarkets do have to subsidise those £1 chickens somehow after all!).

We also pride ourselves on our old-fashioned, attentive and friendly customer service - do let us know if you ever find that this isn't the case. 

If you are a local we will of course be more than happy to accept online orders for all of the products you find on this website (including any chilled, frozen and fragile items). You can then collect your order from the shop at a convenient time - minus the delivery charge of course, or depending on your postcode we are happy to deliver the order to you ourselves (subject to a minimum amount).

Organic and/or Fairtrade?

We have two main criteria when selecting our products: the quality must be first-rate and they must taste delicious whether they are organic or not.

If a product is organic we view it is as a bonus, not a necessity. To be honest we often find organic food fails to make the grade when it comes to taste or is surprising full of unnecessary additives that aren't in other great-tasting non-organic equivalents. Plus provenance is very important to us - we would always rather work closely with a small producer that we know and trust than rely on some undefined organic standard from the other side of the world.

Fairtrade? Most of the products we sell are produced in Britain or elsewhere in the EU, so couldn't be fairtrade. For those products where it is relevant: we sell fairtrade chocolate, coffee, cocoa and drinking chocolate. We do however believe in trading fairly with all of our small producers - particularly those in this country who struggle to make a living. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for, so if you want top quality, fantastically flavoured food we believe we should pay the producer appropriately for their time, expertise and passion for their goods.

Of course our internet shop is always open for shopping, but the opening hours in our London shop are:

If you would like too speak to us concerning an online order or to place an order over the phone, please call us between 10am and 6pm Tuesday to Friday. Please note that at weekends our shop staff will just be able to pass on messages to be dealt with on the following Tuesday.

What's the parking like in Muswell Hill?

Like all of London it is a little challenging at times. There are two public pay and display car parks just a couple of minutes walk away (behind the Odeon cinema and Marks & Spencer), there is also pay and display parking on Muswell Hill Broadway, plus there is free parking on neighbouring residential streets. Please don't hesitate to call us if you are coming to Muswell Hill for the first time and would like help in finding us.
