The Galioto family have been running their oil mill in eastern Sicily for four generations, and their Castel di Lego oil is an excellent multi-award winning cold pressed, unfiltered extra virgin olive oil made from a blend of Tonda Iblea, Marmurigna and Nocarella dell'Etna olives.
This golden yellow oil has a fragrant bouquet and sweet taste - excellent with vegetables, fish and delicately flavoured foods.
The Tonda Iblea (Hyblaen Round) is a variety of olive that is particulary rich in phenols which, through their effective antioxidizing action, not only help preserve the oil and its organoleptic properties, but also have beneficial effects for human health. The Tonda Iblea (Hyblaen Round) can be found only in five town of eastern Sicily at 500/600 meters of altitude.
The Marmurigna (marble hard type of olive) is the most ancient variety of graft. It was Auristeus, son of Apollo, who in 1200 b.C. brought it to Sicily from the Greek-Minoan world. Today it is exclusive found in the eastern part of the Hyblaean hills (at 500/700 meters of altitude).
