Black sticky rice or black sweet rice - a natural, unevenly coloured short grain rice that is especially sticky when cooked. The almost black, purple colour of the cooked rice comes from the dark unpolishd layer of bran.

Black sticky rice is very popular in Thailand and Indonesia. It has a rich, nutty flavour and is often eaten as a sweet pudding or porridge. Once boiled it is often served soaked in sweetened coconut milk.
