Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate (4oz, 113g)
Baker's German's Chocolate - American dark baking chocolate with added sugar. Use to make a classic American cake, German Chocolate Cake, named after this baking chocolate rather than originating in Germany. Classicly, German Chocolate Cake is decorated with a coconut pecan frosting.
The roots of German Chocolate cake can be traced back to 1852 when an American baker Samuel German developed this dark baking chocolate for the Baker's Chocolate Company and the brand of the product, Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate, was named after him. Then in 1957, The Dallas Morning News published a recipe for "German's Chocolate Cake" as their "Recipe of the Day". This recipe used the baking chocolate first launched 105 years earlier and when the recipe was then published in newspapers throughout the country it soon became a national staple and over time German's became German.
Baker's is one of the oldest brands of American chocolate. First founded in Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1764.
