Panpepato - panforte is one of the most traditional of Italian desserts, particularly at Christmas and a speciality of Siena. Among all the types of panforte, panpepato (pepperbread) is the simplest, and probably also the oldest.
Panpepato was invented in the monasteries where the monks mixed the various ingredients, including spices, like cinnamon and pimento, which give panpepato its characteristic slight bite to the taste.
Cut into small pieces and enjoy with a glass of dessert wine such as Vin Santo or a glass of Prosecco. One of our favourites!
